My name is Dom de Lima, I’m a psychology writer, and this is my newsletter. I’m so glad to be here. I envision this corner of Substack to be a space where we’ll explore what it means to cultivate mental health, resilience, and overall wellbeing.
What you can expect
In The 5-Star Mindset, I’ll focus on providing you with insights, practical strategies, and the motivation to take deliberate steps toward improving and maintaining your psychological health. While I’ll address mental health conditions at times, the primary focus will be on exploring knowledge and implementing actions to build a strong and sustainable foundation for wellbeing.
Every week, you’ll receive thoughtfully crafted content designed to inspire and guide you. Whether it’s exploring resilience, positive habits, self-development, or other facets of mental health, you can expect content that’s easy to digest and immediately actionable.
A little about me
I’ve recently made the intimidating, but exciting decision to gradually move away from academia and try to make a living from writing. It’s a leap into the unknown, but one I’m ready to take with an open mind and a lot of determination. That’s why I’m so pleased to be here on Substack. It feels like the right space to share my work and connect with a thoughtful community that might help me along this journey.
Also, I hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology with Counselling, accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), and an MSc in the Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London, with a particular focus on psychosis. My academic background has provided me with a deep understanding of the biopsychosocial processes that protect and strengthen our minds.
This background inspired me to create the 5-Star Framework and author my newly released book: What Makes a Resilient Mind?.
The newsletter
The 5-Star Mindset Newsletter is inspired by the principles of the 5-Star Framework, a simple approach to mental health I created to encourage proactive and structured care for sustained psychological wellbeing. While the actual framework focuses on actionable tools the newsletter will discuss ideas, prompt insights and reflections to help you cultivate a mindset of growth, balance, and resilience.
What does a 5-Star Mindset mean?
A 5-Star Mindset is about taking deliberate steps to protect and strengthen your mind while embracing the realities of life. It’s a commitment to fostering small, consistent actions that build resilience and wellbeing over time.
What doesn’t a 5-Star Mindset mean?
It’s not about chasing perfection or striving for an unattainable ideal. Nor is it about ignoring challenges, seeking quick fixes, or subscribing to artificial positivity. Instead, a 5-Star Mindset acknowledges life’s difficulties while equipping you with the knowledge and tools to navigate them thoughtfully and intentionally.
